John Deere is socially responsible company and like many other reputable companies take the environment very seriously when designing their Final Tier 4 systems. John Deere has spent nearly fifty years working hard on bringing down engine emissions. Much of the work was done before the government laid down emission control legislation. John Deere works tirelessly not only to meet US emission standards but also to comply with emission regulations throughout the world. The task is never ending as countries tighten their emission controls on a regular basis and John Deere Final Tier 4 systems need to be one step ahead.

Understanding emissions

Environment agencies take into consideration four types of engine emission. These are: Carbon monoxide, particulate matter, nitrogen oxides and hydrocarbons. These emissions have a direct impact on health and the environment. For the above reasons environmental agencies throughout the Western World are bringing in more and more stringent laws to reduce emissions for on-road and off road engines.

We think of emissions relating to cars and trucks but agencies across the world are now focusing on non road diesel engines. Because emission legislation came later than on road engines it is now applied more aggressively to off road diesel equipment.

Emissions for final tier 4 emissions.

Interim Final Tier 4 systems and Stage 111B legislation requires a 90 percent reduction in PM and a fifty percent reduction in Nox

Interim Final Tier 4 systems /Stage III B and Final Tier 4 systems /Stage IV are required to pass extra emissions tests including the steady-state 8-mode test (ISO 8178) and the rigorous off road transient cycle (NRTC) test.

Final Tier 4 systems /Stage IV regulations will be fully implemented by the year 2015. It will maintain levels of PM and require an additional 80% reduction in Nox compared to Interim Tier 4/Stage III B.

How are low emissions achieved.

John Deere uses a combination of different technologies to achieve low emissions that meet and surpass current regulations. The engine turbocharger cools exhaust gas and routes it back into the intake manifold and is mixed with fresh air. This process removes oxygen from the air lowering temperatures and this in turn lowers Nox.

John Deere final tier 4 systems use special catalyst filters that react with exhaust gases and lowers carbon monoxide, particulate matter and hydrocarbons. The above measures also delivers more efficient fuel economy.

All John Deere engines are tested thoroughly on the bench and in the field to ensure the engines live up to the tough demands expected from their clients and emissions controls laid down by governments.
